Savannah, GA will be hosting its first ever Bacon Fest this weekend, September 5-6. It will be held on Savannah’s historic River Street, a cobblestone street on the Savannah river where tourists go to step into the 17th century, eat some awesome local seafood, and get majorly drunk.
The event is the idea of the Savannah Waterfront Association, though this year it’s not like it’s that hard to come up with this kind of idea. Tons of cities are having their first Bacon Fest this year.
Local restaurants will be bringing out their best bacon dishes, and the Chocolat choclatier will even be bringing out some bacon butter pecan toffee! I’ve lived in Georgia all my life, and Savannah is a popular destination for us Georgians for a quick weekend trip. So I’ve been there a lot, and know there is some seriously quality food in Savannah. Their takes on bacon dishes can be quite delicious.
The Back in the Day bakery makes a bacon jam sandwich that’s wonderful. A bar called Andaz makes candied bacon that’s fantastic. And as I understand it there will be a number of new creations featured as well.
The festivities kick off at 4:00 p.m. on September 5. There will be fireworks at 9:30 p.m. (part of the First Friday thing). On Saturday, the festival continues from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. There will be crafts from local artisans in sale in Rousakis Plaza, and t-shirts on sale for $7 to $11.
